Dramatic decrease in the number of visitors to Germany

The importance of tourism in Germany is shown by the figures from last year: 17.2 percent of the almost 90 million overnight stays by foreign tourists in Germany took place in Berlin. Another 29 percent visited the so-called Magic Cities, the ten largest city destinations in so-called incoming tourism: Bremen, Cologne, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart.

There are still no reliable figures and forecasts on how Corona has affected and will also have an impact on tourism, however the drop in the number of guests is likely to be dramatic. By the end of the year, a current study expects a drop of 45 percent for overnight stays from Europe and 64 percent for overnight stays from overseas.


No crowds at Checkpoint Charlie!

Tourists can now enjoy the combination of nature and culture, which is what makes Berlin so special.

Currently, it seems almost only German-speaking tourists are visiting the capital. A few Dutch and French visitors as well, but overall, however, it is mainly Germans, as well as cyclists enjoying the green surroundings of Berlin; nature-loving tourists are certainly getting their money's worth.

Anyone who has always wanted to take a picture of the Brandenburg Gate without seeing dozens of people in the picture should visit the capital now. Pariser Platz, the square in front of the popular monument is practically empty.
